You've found the perfect fabric for your new luxury made to measure curtains, now it's time to select your curtain style. Curtains come in an array of different styles and finishes, certain styles are better placed in certain scenarios. It can feel like a bit of a minefield, but don't worry we're here to help you traverse the tricky terrain of curtain styles.
Before we begin though, you first need to consider the ambiance of your space - is it rustic, grandiose, contemporary? Once that has been established, you need to consider what sort of effect you want your bespoke curtains to have, dramatic? More refined? Something a little more casual?
Pencil Pleat Curtains
The classic curtain style, timeless and elegant this style is at home in any room of your home and will work with any space; although they're most effective in traditionally styled bedrooms or living rooms. The curtain fabric is gathered neatly at the top, but without being pinched. Pencil pleat curtains are seen as cost effective as there isn't a lot of fabric lost in the pleating. For a more classical look, combine with a pelmet of the same fabric. Pencil pleat curtains are suitable for use on a track or a curtain pole.
Deep Pleat Curtains
Similar to the pencil pleat style, deep pleat curtains are another classic look. Offering a little extra than the standard pencil pleat, deep pleat curtain finishes add a little touch of drama to the room. Again, the curtain fabric is gathered into neat pleats at the top. However, the pleat heading is roughly twice as deep than what you would traditionally find in pencil pleating. Again, deep pleat curtains are suitable for tracks of poles.
Eyelet Curtains
Eyelet curtains are a modern favourite and are suited to a more contemporary space. Eyelets built into the curtain fabric allow for your bespoke curtain to be fed through a pole. This gives natural, soft pleats which are perfect for those looking for a more minimalistic style. As eyelet curtains need a pole, they are generally not suitable for bay windows and cannot be used with tracks. Lighter, pastel curtain fabrics pair well with eyelet curtains.
Double Pinch Pleat Curtains
Slightly erring away from the contemporary and diving into the formal, double pinch pleat curtains offer sleek lines and are ideal for living rooms and dining areas. Including pinch pleats in a bedroom may be a little overkill. The double pinch pleat style is very effective when you're looking for pinch style curtains but have opted for a heavily patterned fabric. Less of the fabric is lost in the pleating allowing you to admire all the hard work the curtain fabric designer has put in. Double pinch pleat curtains can be used with a pole or track.
Triple Pinch Pleat Curtains
Deep into classic curtain styling, triple pinch pleat curtains have even more formality than double pinch pleat curtains and offer a little more drama. Ideal for dining areas and drawing rooms this elegant curtain style is a traditional curtain finish, suitable for tracks and poles. If choosing an intricately patterned curtain fabric, some of the pattern is likely to be lost in the pleating.
Goblet Curtains
Sticking with the classic, dramatic styles, the goblet curtain style is equally as dramatic as the triple pinch pleat style, but the pleating is formed into a wineglass shape. A little more contemporary than the pinch pleats, goblet curtains are a fantastic addition to a modern space where a sense of elegant drama is desired. Again, suitable for track or pole.
Cartridge Curtains
Sleek, elegant, and modern. Cartdridge curtains are a popular choice for those with a minimalist space, but are looking for something a little more uniform than wave or eyelet curtains. The cartridge style offers a sense of minimalism, but with uniform curtain folds. A great middle ground. Can be used with a pole or a track.
Wave Curtains
Last but not least, wave curtains. An excellent choice for contemporary decor, wave curtains make the most of your space and are a popular choice for those with large windows. Particularly effective in living and dining rooms, wave curtains have soft, natural pleats and are great with poles or tracks.
